Travel and orientation

The operator lists lines 2, 25, 29, 33/34, 36, 37 and 38 for public-transport access. The 76-hectare site contains three chapels and toilets, and an official overview plan can help with preparation. The main map on this page shows a representative position inside the cemetery; it is not a substitute for a gate or detailed site plan.

From central cemetery to place of remembrance

Friedhof Osterholz opened in 1920 as a municipal central cemetery. Umweltbetrieb Bremen describes it as the city’s largest and one of its most important cemeteries. The grounds also contain Bremen’s central memorial to those killed in war. Umweltbetrieb Bremen is responsible for questions about graves and burials, and consultation can be arranged in advance.

Preparing a grave care request

A clear enquiry gives the cemetery, the deceased person’s name and, where known, plot, row and grave number. The requested work, an approximate time frame and an existing recent photograph add useful context. This independent portal is not part of the cemetery administration and does not perform official functions.
